Genealogy is a fascinating hobby - one which, most genealogists agree, once you start you become 'hooked'. Discovering just a few ancestors is enough to set you on the trail of discovery with an ever increasing need to know more! In the nineteenth century, with the emergence of industrialisation and related services, people flocked to towns and cities in large numbers seeking work or opportunites to start their own businesses. On this basis, a large number of people today discover that their ancestors did not come from the town or city where they were born/are now based. It can come as a big surprise to many to discover that their more distant ancestors were not, for example, from London or Liverpool but from such far away places as Ireland, Wales, Cornwall, Devon, other counties in England and even Germany, France and other countries.

One-One Tuition
We offer one-to-one tuition in tracing your ancestors and developing your family tree - either by visiting your home or through on-line tuition. During one-to-one sessions you will learn how to use the internet to trace your ancestors back through the 1800s and beyond drawing on a range of sources, and to record your findings using a genealogy database. You will also learn how to produce family trees and, if required, family history books to share with family members.

Basic research learning how to trace your ancestors in the 1800s using the internet (4 hours)
Researching ancestors in the 1500/1600/1700s using the internet and record offices (2X4 hours)
Recording research & creating reports using a genealogy database (3 hours)
Making family history books incorporating the use of images (4 hours)
Preparing a Family Tree (1 hour)

Example of an emerging family tree with focus on the paternal line, i.e. Griffin. For those new to genealogy, it is suggested that researchers focus initially on their paternal line, i.e. the surname name they were born with. When this line has been traced back as far as it can go, attention can then be turned to tracing ancestors of branches of the paternal line, e.g. Bull of North Moreton, Berkshire; Waller of Marylebone, London; Crook of Wallingford, Berkshire; Wells of Little Milton, Oxfordshire.
